    Hello all!

We've decided to spice things up a little and introduce a new design to the site to make things generally look nicer and to provide a much easier-to-understand and clean layout.

    What's different?

As part of the new design, there are some notable changes. These include:

    • New text fonts

    • New colour scheme

    • An extended footer with our latest Tweets and important links

    • An improved UI across the site

    • A re-arranged navigation bar

    • A new 'speech bubble' design for thread posts

... As well as many more features which you'll notice as you spend more time adjusting to the new theme.

I want the old theme back...

If you are not a big fan of the new theme, you can always use the original IPS default theme or our original theme (Adore) by simply selecting a new theme preference in the footer at the very bottom of every page on the site. This theme will then be saved to your account settings, and everytime you access the Forums you'll automatically have that theme selected.

By default, everybody will be using the new theme.

We hope you like the changes, and are always open to any feedback or comments you have. :)

I'm wondering why everything looks like a quote except the quotes, which look like regular posts... And why is the post box darker than the space around it.... grumblegrumblelikedthebrightlycolouredoldthemegrumblegrumblegreyanddullgrumblegrumblecircularpagenumberbuttonsgrumblegrumblenomoreorangelikesgrumblegrumble...

The post box is darker so you can tell who has said the message, I tried it being lighter or non existant and it didn't look as nice

Well, I'm going to switch over the the default IPS theme, I'm afraid I don't really like this new one.

Also going to hit the hay because I've gone into grumpy sod mode...

Right, I think that's the vast majority of the changes made now, there are a few things left which aren't perfect (such as the navigation buttons on the header looking a bit plain and the page number buttons mysteriously being navy blue even though there isn't one single colour setting in the options which is navy blue any more...) but aside from a few tweaks, this is our new look now :)

I think everything looks much better now, but there is still one thing that I think could be changed - the fonts?

PS When you select text, there's no highlight, the text just goes white on a white background.

We did have google webfonts on but noticed that it meant that the page would load everything up in one font, stutter and then replace all the fonts, so we decided to just stick with the default Droid Sans, which I think looks acceptable.

@iomex Trying to find the setting for that now, I'd noticed that too. There are several aspects where the colour of something is tied to something entirely different.

I think the reason for that is because when you gather the fonts, it is using an API from Google. There may be a way around it, but not too sure.

Ok, so the highlight colour is the same setting as the border around the selected section of the site... Notice that the ring around "Forums" is now green and ugly.

Both the selection highlight colour and the navigation highlight colour are now a slightly off-white. I don't like that it feels like a bodge, but hopefully it's the best compromise for a fairly daft grouping of settings.

With regards to webfonts, you can host them yourself so it doesn't have to utilize the Google API... but I can't for the life of me remember how you do it. I know I used it for a forum before to stop the rendering mid page load.

Or, and now here's a crazy thought, we use websafe default font families that are already on the devices that will browse the forums and then only the content need be served to the user? :tongueout:

These code snippets seem to really like putting in excessive amounts of line breaks.

This sentence is on a new line with no gap when I enter it in the editor.

But now there's a gap in between each one.

I left a single line gap to this sentence, now it's huge...

Also, when I edit the code snippet to fix the spelling in the previous sentence, it adds more lines to the snippet on top of the already added ones (unless I delete them all manually) making this even longer...

Something to look into fixing maybe?

    :)
