I personally find most modern buses noisy especially on same deck as the engine, and uncomfortable some with thin pads on a plastic moulding.
If your body does not bare resemblance to the European manikin used to form the seat pan you are on a hiding to nothing of sitting with some comfort.
The other thing especially with bonded glazing on double deck models, is that the whole side of the bus becomes live with vibrations linked to the engine & transmissions.
With these points being across a whole range of vehicles my choice of worst bus is somewhat different. The LT RLH class on the 230 route in Wealdstone, the low height version
combined with smallish windows made these very dark & dingy especially in winter. The other down points being having to play musical chairs on the upper deck 4 abreast seating
which was great fun when it was wet, the last point was if you sat on the drivers side on the lower deck you had to remember to DUCK!!
In pics below on one it looks like someone has taken revenge on a 230 bus NOT ME.

Optare Versas are practically a bit of plastic moudling for a chassis sticky-taped to the wheel frame. Very noisy and rattly; not sure if it counts for all types, but for the ones I've been on, they suck badly.
Not to mention the fact that they sound like underpowered hair dryers. A guy from my local Stagecoach depot said that they were incredibly unreliable. They have since been withdrawn.

I'm really glad RMs left London. Tiny windows, open back door (therefore freezing in the winter), skinny meaning it's very cramped, inaccessible, and horrifically polluting.

The original RM's where built very well, they're old buses obviously they would pollute but they're we're meant for London also more fuel efficient than any of the new buses and the semi-auto gearbox is great for cities. The RM's in Reading (Reading Mainline) were used until 2000, they competed against Reading buses and were very successful as driver/crew operation was quicker and faster but the new RM's are horrible piles of crap the old RM's are better.

P.S. Also some RM's are quite warm in the winter, you don't get a huge draft when sat on the back seats.

Best and worst buses? Oooh I’ve got a lot of beans to spill here!

Best overall buses? Single decker would have to be B7RLE, or if modern probably an E200MMC, I’ve had very little experience with them. The B7RLE is great, dependable, comfy and probably the perfect bridge between the old and the the new. Personally my best experience was with a First Wright eclipse, namely 66980, which is a Eastern Counties based unit. Image isn’t mine!

On the double side, the best for me is a Euro 2 Dennis Trident, hands down. Admittedly I haven’t been on many over time, but I love them to pieces, especially when mated to a Plaxton Presidents body. Probably my favorite was the last Eastern Counties unit 32809.

On the negatives, Wrightbus of course fails to avoid my radar. The Streetlite cannot be missed here. We’ve also got some absolute duffers that we call Streetdecks, rubbish!

Some bad ones are actually bad because of the maintenance, I’m sorry to say it, but a clear example is First’s B7TL 32062, really unreliable and poorly. It’s a pain to ride, which is sad to say as I love these buses lots.

Also very much hate the Omnidekka Scania that is used by a local company, Simonds, mostly due the fact I don’t get along with Scanias. Wright Solar ones are a little better.

Didn’t know that this thread existed. But I’ve found it now. I cannot see why anyone would dislike a Scania. I live where lots of Scania buses go around and they are very reliable. We used to have Omnicities, but they are now with our sister company, so I still sometimes see one. They are quite nice buses actually. I believe they are CN94UD or CN270UD, not N230UD, however.
In terms of Optare - hate them :)

What didn’t you like about the Omnidekka, if I may ask? I take them very often, and they really are beautiful buses! The N94UD ones, that is. I hate our N270UD ‘Dekkas.

Well, I haven’t been on many Scania’s, but the few I’ve been on are absolutely rubbish! Can’t name the models as im not as knowledgeable with them as I am others! Most are Norfolk based buses anyway, there’s one or two Wright Solar ones with First, and they are knackered, with clunky gear changes and awful noises. It seems that Sanders (they’re another Norfolk company, yes) are only using Scanias! They have a few Omnidekkas and Pulsars, but they are best described as gutless, not to mention filthy. Mind you, it’s better than their old Optares. It’s always relieving when one of their B7 Gemini’s turn up instead. Ive also found them generally less comfy than Firsts oldest Presidents! THIS PHOTO ISNT MINE BY THE WAY!

On second thoughts, I’d still have a Scania over an Optare. The old Solo really battered their reputation for me!

Wow! That really is dirty!
Omnidekkas really are lovely buses, if they’re treated well.
At the time of writing, my profile picture is a Omnidekka cab, and to me it looks very driver friendly. Scania make very reliable buses in my experience, and work a lot better then a B9TL on long distance routes. :)
Of course, we may all have our own opinions on a bus, and that’s mine :D
